Winger

Title: Winger
Series: Winger #1
Author: Andrew Smith
Format: Hardback, 429 pages
Rating: 4 stars
Time to Read: 2 days
Recommend it?: yes

Goodread's Bio: Ryan Dean West is a fourteen-year-old junior at a boarding school for rich kids. He’s living in Opportunity Hall, the dorm for troublemakers, and rooming with the biggest bully on the rugby team. And he’s madly in love with his best friend Annie, who thinks of him as a little boy.

With the help of his sense of humor, rugby buddies, and his penchant for doodling comics, Ryan Dean manages to survive life’s complications and even find some happiness along the way. But when the unthinkable happens, he has to figure out how to hold on to what’s important, even when it feels like everything has fallen apart.

Filled with hand-drawn info-graphics and illustrations and told in a pitch-perfect voice, this realistic depiction of a teen’s experience strikes an exceptional balance of hilarious and heartbreaking.

My Review: i picked up this book because i knew it was just a light read, about a 14yr olds way of dealing with girls and school. For 425 pages it was soooo good. i love every minute of it. i loved all the drawings and i laughed at parts and cringe at others, like when he got his stitches! then the last 14 pages!!!! WHAT THE HECK!!! you can't write this funny, not serious in any manor book, then just throw that bull at me in the last few pages!!! ah! seriously you needed to add like 200 more pages after that event!!

All that craziness aside, it was a great read. it was quick and funny and i liked every minute of it!

The 5th Wave

Title: The 5th Wave
Series: The Fifth Wave #1
Author: Rick Yancey
Format: E-book (480 pages)
Rating: 4.5 stars!
Time to Read: 6 days
Team: Evan
Recommend it?: yes!

Goodread's Bio: After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.

Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

My Review: I'm not really sure i can even put this into words very well! I went into this knowing there was some mixed reviews among my fellow book buddies. I was really hyped up for it. I was expecting something good, and i got something amazing!

First, i had no idea it was going to be told from different points of view. if i had gotten the hardback, i would've glanced though it and saw that in advance. i was very happy to see it switch to different points of views. I feel that especially in books dealing with the world going to shiz, different points of view very very much heighten the story and make it so much more fulfilling to read. You get so much more out of the story when it's told from different POVs so i was very happy to see it being switched :]

Ben/Zombie POV was crazy. To think about having to go though what he had to go thou, crazy. I enjoyed his character development. I highly doubt i would've dealt with any of that as well as he did.

I'm still buzzing over the last few chapters! I need to read the next one right now!

Split Second

Title: Split Second
Series: Pivot Point #2
Author: Kasie West
Format: Hardback, 360 pags
Time to Read: 4 days
Recommend it?: Yes :]

Gooread's Bio: Addie hardly recognizes her life since her parents divorced. Her boyfriend used her. Her best friend betrayed her. She can’t believe this is the future she chose. On top of that, her ability is acting up. She’s always been able to Search the future when presented with a choice. Now she can manipulate and slow down time, too . . . but not without a price.

When Addie’s dad invites her to spend her winter break with him, she jumps at the chance to escape into the Norm world of Dallas, Texas. There she meets the handsome and achingly familiar Trevor. He’s a virtual stranger to her, so why does her heart do a funny flip every time she sees him? But after witnessing secrets that were supposed to stay hidden, Trevor quickly seems more suspicious of Addie than interested in her. And she has an inexplicable desire to change that.

Meanwhile, her best friend, Laila, has a secret of her own: she can restore Addie’s memories . . . once she learns how. But there are powerful people who don’t want to see this happen. Desperate, Laila tries to manipulate Connor, a brooding bad boy from school—but he seems to be the only boy in the Compound immune to her charms. And the only one who can help her.

My Review: I knew i wanted to start this as soon as i finished Pivot Point, and i'm so glad i did.

Kasie West! i am adding her to my list of authors i need to read all of their books!

I love how in this book, the story is told from Addie and Laila's POV! Getting a look into Laila's life really made me connect to the story even more.

I am all for Team Trevor!

The twist in this book!! ah! i just didn't see it coming and was shocked! I'm glad with the way it played out thou!

This was just a great book. I highly recommend reading this series. :]

Clockwork Angel

Title: Clockwork Angel
Series: The Infernal Devices #1
Author: Cassandra Clare
Format: Hardback, 476 pages
Time to Read: 7 days**

Goodread's Bio: In a time when Shadowhunters are barely winning the fight against the forces of darkness, one battle will change the course of history forever. Welcome to the Infernal Devices trilogy, a stunning and dangerous prequel to the New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments series.

The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them....

My Review: **So let me start by saying it took 7 days for two reasons 1) i took a break to read some smaller books that were due at the library 2) i listened to this as an audio book a couple months back and i was having issues getting into it since i remember most of it.

I did like this book :]

I didn't see that major twist coming at all!

I did have trouble getting into it, but i know it's because i listened to it before so i was kinda bored since i already knew what happened til i got about 60% in, then i really got into it :]

Recommend it?: yes :]

Pivot Point

Title: Pivot Point
Series: Pivot Point #1
Author: Kasie West
Format: Hardback, 352 pages
Time to Read: About 12hrs :]

Goodread's Bio: Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.

In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without.

My Review: I don't even think i could put this into words.

Mainly just WOW!

Everyone should read this!

Recommend it?: YES!!!!

Spell Bound

Title: Spell Bound
Series: Hex Hall #3
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Format: Hardback, 327 pages
Time to Read: 1 day :]

Goodread's Bio: Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.

Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?

My Review: This was a perfect ending to this series, thou i am very sad to be done. i want more!

Sophie is thrown into so much and deals with it amazingly. she is a badbutt woman for sure. her love triangle with Cal and Archer gets even more intense in this book and i think i'm on team Cal :] he respects Sophie and goes to the ends of the earth for her and gracious allows her to follow her heart.

The details and plot were still just as good as the others. Rachel does a good job of writing these to where you don't need a whole lot of background info given to you, which i really love. i hate where the first few chapters is just the author trying to get you caught up with the story.

I am now waiting on Hawkins to relase Miss Mayhem :]

Recommend it?: beautiful ending to a great series.

:]

It feels so good :]

The 5th Wave

When i finish Clockwork Angel and Pivot Point later tonight, i'm starting The 5th Wave, and it better live up to the hype!!

Stress!

Demonglass

Title: Demonglass
Series: Hex Hall #2
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Format: Hardback, 359 pages
Time to Read: About 6hrs :]

Goodread's Bio: Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch. That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (a.k.a. witches, shape-shifters, and faeries). But then she discovered the family secret, and the fact that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.

Turns out, Sophie's a demon, one of only two in the world-the other being her father. What's worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will either destroy her powers for good-or kill her.

But once Sophie arrives, she makes a shocking discovery. Her new housemates? They're demons too. Meaning, someone is raising demons in secret, with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they're using Archer to do it. But it's not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

My Review: Rachel Hawkins is a genius. i loved this one just as much as the first. just so good!

Sophie is still awesome. I'm still torn on team archer or team cal.

The events in this book almost gave me a heart attack! Crazy stuff went down and i was feeling so much emotion!

And that ending again!! why must she keep ending them with cliff hangers?!?!

Recommend it?: YES! this series is so good!!

Hex Hall

Title: Hex Hall
Series: Hex Hall #1
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Format: Hardback, 323 pages
Time To Read: About 12hrs :]

Goodread's Bio: Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father—an elusive European warlock—only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.

By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tag-along ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire student on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.

My Review: I loved loved loved this book! i devoured it! i loved Sophie, she's an awesome main character. i guess i get to pick a team for this book too, team archer or team cal. i haven't decided yet :]

The details described were very good, i could easily image everything and most of the time, i wished i was a witch!!!

That ending thou!! ugh. i wouldve been really mad if i read that when it came out and was forced to wait for the next. luckly thou i grabbed all three books at the same time and i quickly started reading Demonglass :]

Recommend it?: YES!

Ashen Winter

Title: Ashen Winter
Series: Ashfall #2
Author: Mike Mullian
Format: Hardback, 576 pages
Time to Read: 2 days!

Goodread's Bio: It’s been over six months since the eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano. Alex and Darla have been staying with Alex’s relatives, trying to cope with the new reality of the primitive world so vividly portrayed in Ashfall, the first book in this series. It’s also been six months of waiting for Alex’s parents to return from Iowa. Alex and Darla decide they can wait no longer and must retrace their journey into Iowa to find and bring back Alex’s parents to the tenuous safety of Illinois. But the landscape they cross is even more perilous than before, with life-and-death battles for food and power between the remaining communities. When the unthinkable happens, Alex must find new reserves of strength and determination to survive.

My Review: More crazyness! i was glad to jump back into the crazy life of Alex and i was really excited to read about the adventures he was gonna have with Darla.

Shiz goes down like no other and Alex learns how much life has really changed in a mere 10 months.

i really don't want to include spoilers, but holy cow, everything that happened just kept me on the edge of my seat!

I totally forgot i got a copy of Sunrise via Netgallery and i can't wait to start it!!!

Recommend it?: yes! read this!!

Ready Player One

Title: Ready Player One
Author: Ernest Cline
Format: E-Book
Time to Read: 13 days

Goodread's Bio: And like most of humanity, Wade dreams of being the one to discover the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this virtual world. For somewhere inside this giant networked playground, OASIS creator James Halliday has hidden a series of fiendish puzzles that will yield massive fortune -- and remarkable power -- to whoever can unlock them.

For years, millions have struggled fruitlessly to attain this prize, knowing only that Halliday's riddles are based in the pop culture he loved -- that of the late twentieth century. And for years, millions have found in this quest another means of escape, retreating into happy, obsessive study of Halliday's icons. Like many of his contemporaries, Wade is as comfortable debating the finer points of John Hughes's oeuvre, playing Pac-Man, or reciting Devo lyrics as he is scrounging power to run his OASIS rig.

And then Wade stumbles upon the first puzzle.

My Review: I had some issues getting into this. Mainly because i didn't live in the 80's and all those references meant nothing to me. And since i've played some RPGs and other games, i already knew how most of that work so the build up in the beginning just killed me some.

But once i was over the build up, i was engrossed in it and it turned into a real page turner :]

It is an interesting plot and i like how this wasn't about the world completely crumbing. I am hoping we can get to the point where you can get into the game and play like its your life :] i'm a bit of a nerd.

Recommend it?: if you were a teenager in the 80's you for sure need to read this, if you like anything gamer related you for sure need to read this, if you're not either of those, i would say if you can get though the first 25% then you're gonna love it :]

The One

Title: The One
Series: The Selection #3
Author: Kiera Cass
Format: E-Book
Time to Read: Roughly 12hrs!

Goodread's Bio: The Selection changed America Singer's life in ways she never could have imagined. Since she entered the competition to become the next princess of IllĂ©a, America has struggled with her feelings for her first love, Aspen—and her growing attraction to Prince Maxon. Now she's made her choice . . . and she's prepared to fight for the future she wants.

My Review: this was a teriffic way to end this series. Kiera Cass does an excellent job of seamlessly writing this books together to where it feels like she wrote one big book and just cut it evenly into thirds.

i still love America. i still love Maxon and Aspen. i'm torn on my team for this series. Aspen is so devoted and caring. Maxon tries so hard and he never gives up! ugh!

without spoiling, i love the way the rebels went and i just love the ending. crazy but it gives me hope for true love conquering all :]

Recommend it?: Yes! a great end to a good series :]

Ashfall

Title: Ashfall
Series: Ashfall #1
Author: Mike Mullin
Format: Hardback, 466 pages
Time to Read: 2 days!

Goodread's Bio: Under the bubbling hot springs and geysers of Yellowstone National Park is a supervolcano. Most people don't know it's there. The caldera is so large that it can only be seen from a plane or satellite. It just could be overdue for an eruption, which would change the landscape and climate of our planet.

For Alex, being left alone for the weekend means having the freedom to play computer games and hang out with his friends without hassle from his mother. Then the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts, plunging his hometown into a nightmare of darkness, ash, and violence. Alex begins a harrowing trek to search for his family and finds help in Darla, a travel partner he meets along the way. Together they must find the strength and skills to survive and outlast an epic disaster.

My Review: Ok, i must admit, since i read Life As We Knew It i already knew some of the things that were gonna happen. But that didn't affect how i felt towards this book!

i didn't want this to end ever! so much stuff went down and i was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Alex was an awesome main character, i admit, i couldn't have done half the stuff he did. he is a badbutt teenager! Darla made an every more awesome supporting character. she's a role model for sure.

i couldn't image this super volcano happening, i know all this stuff could happen in some freak way so i just hope i'm safe in my Indiana home :]

Recommend it?: hells yes!

8 books to go til i reach 100 books this year :]
