A Beautiful Dark

Title: A Beautiful Dark (A Beautiful Dark #1)
Author: Jocelyn Davies
Format: Hardback, 390
Time to Read: 4 days

Goodread's bio: On the night of Skye’s seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye’s life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.

In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

My Review: eh. i technically have 8 pages left but i feel like nothing big is gonna happen so i'm going to go ahead and write this!

i have no idea how i feel about this book. i read it in 4 days, so 100 pages/day, so i guess i liked it because i read it quickly. But i feel like nothing major even happened!!!

Most of the book, is Skye trying to choose between good and bad, light or dark powers. She is also trying to choose between two boys. Most of the time, i forgot which boy was talking, they were written the same pretty much. She falls for both, of course right.

Also some strange things happen and she tries to develop her "powers" but that only takes up maybe 50 pages of the book, so i'm disappointed, but i read some reviews on goodreads and everyone claims it gets better in the second book, which i have at home so i figure i'll have a crack at it, either way i'll be gaining another read for the year so might as well :]

Recommend it?: eh, i haven't decided yet. Sorry.

9 books to go til i reach my goal :]

Anyone read this yet?? Or the second one??

One Kick

Title: One Kick (Kick Lannigan #1)
Author: Chelsea Cain
Format: E-Book
Time to Read: 1 Day :]

Goodread's Bio: Kick Lannigan, 21, is a survivor. Abducted at age six in broad daylight, the police, the public, perhaps even her family assumed the worst had occurred. And then Kathleen Lannigan was found, alive, six years later. In the early months following her freedom, as Kick struggled with PTSD, her parents put her through a litany of therapies, but nothing helped until the detective who rescued her suggested Kick learn to fight. Before she was thirteen, Kick learned marksmanship, martial arts, boxing, archery, and knife throwing. She excelled at every one, vowing she would never be victimized again. But when two children in the Portland area go missing in the same month, Kick goes into a tailspin. Then an enigmatic man Bishop approaches her with a proposition: he is convinced Kick's experiences and expertise can be used to help rescue the abductees. Little does Kick know the case will lead directly into her terrifying past…

My Review: i really have no idea how to write how i feel about this book. once i started reading i just couldn't stop. just amazing. a must read! though the next one doesn't come out til August 2015! let the waiting begin!

Banned Books Week

Daughter of Smoke & Bone

Title: Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1)
Author: Laini Taylor
Format: Hardback, 418 pages
Time to Read: 7 days

Goodread's Bio: Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands", she speaks many languages - not all of them human - and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My Review: Wow. this was a crazy book, crazy in a very good way! i was pulled in and thrown around and loved every minute of it!!!!

Karou is a crazy kissa$$ girl and i loved her! Akiva is an angel with a huge heart!

The background stories Laini writes in this are amazing, so well detailed and thought out.

I just finished this and i want to start Days of Blood & Starlight as soon as i can!!

Recommend it?: yep :]

Author: Rainbow Rowell
Format: E-Book
Time to Read: 6 days!

Goodread's Bio: "Hi, I'm the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you . . . "

Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It's company policy.) But they can't quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.

Meanwhile, Lincoln O'Neill can't believe this is his job now- reading other people's e-mail. When he applied to be "internet security officer," he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.

When Lincoln comes across Beth's and Jennifer's messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can't help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.

By the time Lincoln realizes he's falling for Beth, it's way too late to introduce himself.

What would he say . . . ?

My Review: oh goodness, this was such a cute story. i loved it from the beginning and i was sadden when i got to the last page. And that last page irked me so!

Rainbow Rowell is an amazing writer, i have now read all of her books and all of them are works of genius! She needs to write more right meow!

Recommend it?: of course :] it's a great cute story, a must read by my standards.

True Story

Rainbow Rowell

Knocking out the last of Rainbow's books.

I'm having mixed feelings!!

Oh Stand alones!

I usually only stick to series books. Most of the time, i feel quite empty at the end of a stand alone and therefore avoided them. But recently i made myself tackle a few popular stand alones. And guess what?! I loved them ALL!

I highly recommend all of these!!

Fangirl

Title: Fangirl
Author: Rainbow Rowell
Format: E-Book
Time to Read: 1 DAY!

Goodread's Bio: In Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories? Open her heart to someone? Or will she just go on living inside somebody else’s fiction
?

My Review: my oh my, i devoured this book! it says its 445pages, but it didn't even feel like it. i loved this. i'm seriously Cath. i hate going places i've never been, i rather sit inside and only talk to others i know or ever talked to on my blog. some might see it as lame but i love it!

Cath is a great character, written really well. her twin Wren is a wild child and Cath is a house mouse, only seen when you're really looking.

i just really connected and loved this book. i really wish there was more!!

Recommend it?: YES! Rainbow as done it again!

Since You've Been Gone

Title: Since You've Been Gone
Author: Morgan Matson
Format: Hardback, 449 pages
Time to Read: 4 days

Goodread's Bio: The Pre-Sloane Emily didn't go to parties, she barely talked to guys, she didn't do anything crazy. Enter Sloane, social tornado and the best kind of best friend—the one who yanks you out of your shell.

But right before what should have been an epic summer, Sloane just… disappears. No note. No calls. No texts. No Sloane. There’s just a random to-do list. On it, thirteen Sloane-selected-definitely-bizarre-tasks that Emily would never try… unless they could lead back to her best friend.

Apple Picking at Night? Okay, easy enough.

Dance until Dawn? Sure. Why not?

Kiss a Stranger? Wait… what?

Getting through Sloane’s list would mean a lot of firsts. But Emily has this whole unexpected summer ahead of her, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected) to check things off. Who knows what she’ll find?

My Review: oh my, this book was very good. i kept seeing it all over here and goodreads so i snatched it up as soon as i could. i actually skipped over another book to read this because i could hear it calling me and man did i make a good decision there!!

i really liked the main character Emily. i used to have a best friend relationships like hers and Sloane, and it went pretty much like theirs. she put herself out there so much throughout the book and i really wish i could have those balls sometimes!!

the love story part of this was great, i never felt like it was too corny or fast paced or cheesy. Frank is a great character. and those mixes they made for eachother's iPods! i will be looking up a ton of those songs!

it was a little long and a few things could've been left out, but overall i really like it and didn't want it to end, maybe they'll be another one following how that ending went!

Recommend it?: Yes :] it's a lovely read that doesn't go too deep into anything and is an easy read!

Library Haul 9/12!

I had previously listened to Clockwork Angel on audio while i was away on vacay, but i soon found out i am not one for audio books. i tune out wayy too bad and miss a lot. so when i saw the library had all 3 books in, i had to grab all 3.

last week they didn't have ashen winter in so i almost forgot to check but i remembered and was rewarded!

i did break my usual rule of i'm only allowed to check out the number of books i turned in that day, i turned in 2 and got 4! and they're all huge books!!! but i plan on cracking down and getting some reading done this week so hopefully i won't have to turn back in anything half way done!

Has anyone read the Ashfall series, or the Infernal Devices??
