Atlantia

Atlantia
Ally Condie
Goodreads | Booklikes | Book Depository
Read from Feb. 27 to the 28th.
Rating: 3 Stars

Goodreads Summary: For as long as she can remember, Rio has dreamt of the sand and sky Above—of life beyond her underwater city of Atlantia. But in a single moment, all her plans for the future are thwarted when her twin sister, Bay, makes an unexpected decision, stranding Rio Below. Alone, ripped away from the last person who knew Rio’s true self—and the powerful siren voice she has long hidden—she has nothing left to lose.

Guided by a dangerous and unlikely mentor, Rio formulates a plan that leads to increasingly treacherous questions about her mother’s death, her own destiny, and the complex system constructed to govern the divide between land and sea. Her life and her city depend on Rio to listen to the voices of the past and to speak long-hidden truths.

My thoughts!

Okay, I very much went into this thinking I would totally hate it and then I would get to rant about how horrible it was on here! Sadly that didn't happen. The reviews on Goodreads among those i follow were well lets just say mixed.

By the summary alone, it does sound like this is about mermaids, but you'll be wrong with assuming that. It's actually about people living in a under water city. Ally does an okay job of world building, thou I still can't tell you the layout of the "city".

Main character, Rio is interesting. She is a siren, which from what i know about sirens, she doesn't act it, which disappoints me some. She doesn't have any outstanding traits about her, she's pretty plain. I didn't connect with her too well.

Supporting character, True and Marie were both alright. True seemed to just be there to make stuff for Rio, and be kinda a love interest. Maria is Rio's aunt and she really moves the story along, i really rather this book be about her life!

The plot was meh at best. Under water city is failing, big surprise there. They spend way too much time on Rio's "swimming" career, then the end was really rushed and everything was tied up with a bow.

Overall, I've read worse and I didn't roll my eyes while reading this so 3 stars it is.
